NXT Soccer Controlled By Helmets

Name of Model: Crazy LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT Soccer with Helmets - LEGO World 2011 (Copenhagen)
Created by: NeXTSTORM
Found at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-uyz0j7G70&feature=player_embedded#at=34
Details: Here's an interesting idea for making LEGO robots at events more interactive - giving people an NXT-enhanced helmet that can control a robot playing a soccer-style game. Third-party sensors (gyro and acceleration) are used to track head movements. Commands are derived from there and then sent (over bluetooth) to the robots on the field.

The most impressive part? This was all done in the graphical programming language that ships with the NXT - none of this was done with traditional text-based programming languages.

9 NXT Rover Base for LEGOWORLD Photo Bot

Name of Model: Driving test Lego Mindstorms NXT Rover Bot or Rover-under-contruction-for-Legoworld-2010 (or perhaps there's a newer name for the complete version with the camera)
Created by: Steen
Found at: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=437392
Details: In this video, this giant rover base is being run by remote control. At LEGOWORLD in Zwolle right now, it's operating autonomously, controlled by 9 NXT programmable bricks. Although the video and links above don't show the full version, they're impressive enough already and give you a sense of the sheer size of this 'bot. There's a close-up of the treads that shows that they're actually made out of hundreds (or more likely, thousands) of 3-stud long Technic beams. Another video from the event shows the completed robot driving around taking pictures from inside the crowd.

I'm guessing that we'll be seeing many more photos of this (and taken by this) model after the event is over...which I'll be rounding up here as I see them.

Robotics Monday: NXT Warehouse

Name of Model unknown
Created by various NXT fans
Found at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lehEMDYS9MY&feature=player_embedded
Details: When I wrote about LEGOWORLD 2009 previously, I briefly mentioned the large NXT-based recreation of the machines in the LEGO company's warehouse. After nearly two months of waiting, we finally have found video of this phenomenal Mindstorms NXT set-up. While we still can't see quite everything, we can see a substantial amount of the layout in action, and we even get a decent close-up of a few sections of layout (specifically the carrier robots on the road).

LEGOWORLD 2009 Round-Up

As previously noted, LEGOWORLD was this past weekend in the Netherlands. Here is our belated attempt at the obligatory photo round-up (and as usual, we'll be adding more links to this page as we find out about them):

The photo used above was taken by Vincent Kessels and depicts an NXT-based recreation of the LEGO company's warehouse - this model is currently partially described at http://thenxtstep.blogspot.com/2009/10/legoworld-2009_22.html
